The 5 Largest Unexpected Costs of Your Dream Wedding

Fashion, News

gaba-1874655_1920-1024x683.jpgThe day we started having crushes is the day we began dreaming about our weddings. I was obsessed with the idea of Cinderella’s carriage, and always imagined setting out of that for my own wedding. As we grow older, we realize the real cost of a wedding and how unlikely it’ll be the wedding we dreamed of in childhood. As I am planning my own wedding now, I have come across the true cost of the wedding staples. To say the least, there’s a reason the wedding business is booming. I have multiple theories that just adding the word “wedding” when speaking to a vendor increases the price of a rental threefold.

Lighting

Honestly, who knew you even needed lighting? The cost of lighting is one of the top expenses you would never think of. For almost any venue, the lighting is standard room lighting. This type of lighting isn’t pleasing when taking pictures, dancing, or setting the mood. When booking a ballroom, you will need spotlights for the food, DJ, tables, and decorations. You will also need uplights and some other various lighting. The quote for a ballroom is around $2,000 – $3,000.

Floral

Behind a white dress, one of the most iconic images of a wedding is the floral arrangements. White roses, tulips, hydrangeas, baby’s breath – all scream “wedding”. Odds are, you want a  big lush bouquet for you, your bridesmaids,  your mother, mother in law, and so on. The difference florals can make on your wedding is astounding. A good florist will make your pictures and party pop. Expect florals to close minimum $4,000.

Catering

Chicken or fish? Wonder why that’s a classic line associated with weddings? Because it’s too expensive to buy red meat! From the h’or dourves, to appetizers, to salads, to dinner, to fruit stations, to dessert – the cost of catering is the most expensive part of the wedding. The cost of food is around $50 – 300 per/person. And add that to the required staff, which is about 1 waiter per 15 people. For a party of 300 people catering, will be at least $18,000.

Videography

You know those cute videos that pop up on Instagram with the editing and cute songs? Yes, well those cost money. A lot more money than you would anticipate. For a wedding of about 300 guests, you would want to hire a team of at least 3 videographers. With the mixing of those angles and adequate editing, you can anticipate a great video. The cost for this videography is about $4,000 – $10,000.

Rentals

Odds are, you won’t like the dated furniture given from the venue. The venue will almost always require additional touches to make it unique to your wedding. It might need chivari chairs, or special runners, or a comfy couch area. Whatever it is, you will want to make the wedding uniquely yours. And the best way to do that is with custom, unique rentals. Expect to send anywhere from $3,000 – $10,000 for good rentals.

Ankara styles are fire right now. With the right dose of confidence and fierce, the print on print in solid contrasts, bold hues and patterns are the business and if you love to stand out from the crowd you should totally get with it.

Ankara is versatile, rich in colour and fun not to mention they mostly come in breathable cotton fabrics that are weather appropriate. The weekend is here and it’s the perfect time to whip out those vibrant prints.

The wait is over, the wait is overrrrrrrrrrr.

Yes, today is Savage x Fenty’s launch day, and what a day it is.

We waited an hour to get into the site (LOL, it’s like the Lush boxing day sale up in here), but when the doors finally creaked open, we found ourselves wading in a sea of inclusive underwear bliss.

Our girl Ri has created a line for many shapes, colours and sizes – and crucially, is modelled…

My Top 10 Go To Skincare Products- Clinically Blonde

Beauty Products, Fashion

My Top 10 Go-To Skincare Products

I am so excited to share this highly-requested post about my skincare routine and favorite products. My skin is oily and acne-prone so my personal regimen focuses on preventing acne while also moisturizing and preventing wrinkles. Keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different so do what works for you!

Since most of these products can be found at your local drugstore, you don’t have to break the bank to have beautiful skin! There are a few splurges on here but only for products I truly think are worth the $.

  1. Cleanser

Neutrogena facewash with 3.5% benzoyl peroxide is my favorite! I leave it on my face for a few minutes while brushing my teeth then rinse in order to remove dirt, oil and bacteria.

Neutrogena makeup remover towelettes I keep these in my nightstand in case I’m reading in bed and am too lazy/sleepy to make it to the bathroom!

2. Facial moisturizer

Avene hydrance I apply this every morning – it’s lightweight which doesn’t cake under makeup.

3.Emollient

Cerave moisturizing cream

I use this thicker cream on my face and body before bed. I also TRY to apply it immediately after the shower but admittedly forget this way too often.

4. Retinoid

Adapalene gel

One of my biggest pet peeves is commercialized retinoids. Over-the-counter formulations are on average 1/100th the strength of prescription retinoids and are often upwards of 5x the price. There is one awesome exception – Adapalene (Differin) – which is newly over the counter and retails for about $20. I personally alternate adapalene or tazorac gel nightly (3x per week in the winter) to prevent acne as well as wrinkles.

5. Spot treat acne

I use topical prescription clindamycin foam to spot treat acne.

6. Body breakouts

I keep Panoxyl 10% benzoyl peroxide in my shower and use it 1-2x per week to prevent body breakouts.

7. CC cream

My CC cream has SPF 50 included so I never go a day without face sunscreen! UV protection is the #1 most important ways to protect your skin from aging, discoloration and wrinkles! (#2 is to not smoke cigarettes!)

8. Body sunscreen

On rare sunny days in Boston I apply sunscreen 30 SPF or above. The efficacy of UV protection drops significantly below SPF 30 but increases only incrementally over SPF 30 (see table below). I personally use La Roche Posay brand, and it is currently the #2 most recommended by Dermatologists!

Untitledspf-chart

Heliocare this is basically sunscreen in pill form! It contains Polypodium leucotomos (an antioxidant in the same family as antioxidants found in tea and coffee) which prevents DNA damage from UV light. Most effective when combined with topical sunscreen.

9. Serum

I am recently a big fan of skinceuticals HA serum. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the deepest skin layer and draws moisture into the skin leaving it more radiant and improving the appearance of fine lines.

10. Eye cream

I’ve been using Lancome eye cream since I was a teenager (thanks for the samples, mom) But am currently trying this Colorescience total eye cream and its amazing! It has multiple benefits including reducing puffiness, includes a mineral sunscreen, and brightens up the under-eye area like concealer! Gently apply to under-eye area with your ring finger to avoid applying too much pressure.

And these are a few of my favorite things…. no but seriously, I LOVE THESE PRODUCTS. To make a short story even shorter, skin care was never really on the top of my you need to do this list. I mean I washed my face and put moisturizer on but that’s it really. I can’t really pin point to when I started becoming so obsessed with my skincare routine but lo and behold here it is! I have a combination skin type, meaning i’m oily in some places (mostly my T zone) and dry in others.. & these products do wonders for me! I’m 26 years old & never really thought about some of these things until this year, but I say it’s better to be ahead of the game with your skin than wish you would have started ealier! I even threw in a few randoms that I thought you guys might enjoy as well!

DSC05572

Purity Facial Cleanser

My ride or die of facial cleansers… I’ve been hooked on this one for years, why you ask? My answer: because it works. Fun fact, every christmas my mimi will get me my skincare products, this being one of them & they usually last me the entire year! I have the 32oz. bottle of this cleanser and I keep this little 4oz. bottle to keep refilling because it is a space saver in the shower! Like I said, I have combination skin & the purity made simple just leaves my skin feeling balanced & fresh. It’s a gentle product, so if you have sensitive skin I would suggest this for you! I also use this cleanser to clean all of my makeup brushes and beauty blenders!!

DSC05571

Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion

This is a step I use to NEVER do & now I like to do once a week usually. I truly do notice a difference with this stuff after exfoliating with it. This product will take that texture you’re dealing with under your foundation right off your face, what more can we ask for! It’s a cream to scrub, medium weight, fragrance free product. What I like most about this product is the size of the crystals, they’re micro & really allow the product to give your pores that deep clean they need! Also this exfoliator will leave your skin feeling minty cool! Refines appearance of pores, deep cleans pores, & smoothes skin texture!

DSC05573

Artistry Advanced Softening Toner

Honestly, I have had this product for probably 3 years and barely touched it. Until one day I thought ehh lets just see… & I can’t stress enough now how important this step is in your skincare routine. Esp if your a makeup lover like me! A good toner in your routine is a game changer! You may do a good job at cleansing your face, but toners will pick up that leftover makeup on your skin that you don’t even know is there!!! This product is formulated with Japanese lilyturf to help strengthen the tight junction – a part of the skin that controls moisture levels & will leave your skin feeling soft smooth & hydrated. You neeeeed it.

DSC05603

Mario Badescu Facial Spray

Won’t lie, I jumped on the bandwagon with this one! I’ve only been using it for about a week now but i’m looovving it. This cooling facial mist can be used on your face, neck, or hair. It can be used before or after applying your makeup & gives a dewy finish to your skin. It is infused with Cucumber and Peppermint Essential Waters & delivers a cooling boost of hydration as Green Tea provides powerful antioxidant protection. It’s just so refreshing!! I can’t wait to use this product in the summer months after a day of being out in the sun to refresh my face! Also, one of the best things about this product… it’s only $7 !!

DSC05576

OLEHENRIKSEN Banana Bright eye cream

Any new mamas out there like me?! This product is for you!! Hands down my FAVORITE product over everything! I never knew how much I needed this in  my life until I started using this eye cream back in January. I’ll never go without it again! With a burst of hydration & brightness, this banana eye cream makes my face feel alive in the morning (esp with all these late night\early morning baby dates I have)! This eye cream is collagen-boosted so it brings back firmness in the skin while targeting fine lines & wrinkles. This eye cream is boosted with vitamin-c leaving you with a luminous finish on the skin & also serves as the perfect base to lock on your concealer! I also put this on the center of my forehead a few times a week and have been noticing a difference with some of my forehead lines!

DSC05575

Philosophy hope in a jar

I love this moisturizer! It is a light weight formula that leaves your skin feeling radiant & smooth! This has been my hands down, go-to moisturizer for years! This is because it does not leave my skin looking or feeling greasy & I love the healthy glow it gives you! It does warn you though to be careful when exposed to heavy sunlight because it may cause your skin to be a little sensitive. (I’ve never had any issues!!) I love wearing this under my foundation because it does have a little bit of a tacky feeling when first applied and makes my foundation stick like a primer does!

DSC05583

Rodan + fields night renewing serum & Lip Renewing Serum (not shown)

Both these are awesome! I’ve only tried these a handful of times, but I would defiantly suggest these redefining serums! I do not sell these skin care products, just have tried them through it being offered to me! I have even used the lip serum as a lip gloss because it give you that perfect plump glossy lip!

Some random favorites

DSC05591

Native Deodorant

I’ll never use anything else ever again!! I became aware last year of how awful the popular deodorants are that are constantly being advertised… Did you guys know that Aluminum is an active ingrediant in most of the popular brands, like your favorite secret deoderant! Aluminum is used to form a plug in the sweat duct and stop the flow of sweat to your skins surface… so unnatural!! There has been studies done but nothing scientifally prooven, linking high amounts of aluminum near the under arms to breast cancer.. this is because aluminum has estrogen like effects & estrogen can promote the growth of beast cancer cells…. just be aware of what youre putting on youre body!!

This leads me to Native, I went down the line of aluminum free deodorants until I found this one! It’s made without aluminum, parabens, phthalates, and talc! Native applys smoothly and wont stain your cloths ( because it’s aluminum free)! It’s made with baking soda which soaks up your sweat and allows your body to beathe! The coconut & vanilla scent smells amazing & last me all day! Go buy some I promise you’ll love it!https://bit.ly/2nPTNs5

DSC05584Trade secrets deep condition lip balm!

I love this scent & my lips stay hydrated for hours!! This is a family owned & local business located in downtown Altoona at 1223 13th Avenue! I love their products & I defiantly suggest you go check them out!

DSC05587Bath & body works Almond & vanilla body cream

This body cream has natural almond oil, super rich shea butter & soothing aloe and cocoa butter. This body cream makes my skin feel so silky soft, & smells amazing! It’s my favorite!

BBNaija Celebrating Ugo Monye’s works

Ugo Monye’s designs have influenced international trends and raised fashion keen eyebrows.

Ugo.jpgThrough his patterned brilliance and ‘hawk’s eye’ for flare, Ugo Monye has managed to synchronise traditional elements accompanying the native Nigerian dashiki and boubou with high-fashion influences to create fabric cocktails only his hands have produced thus far.

Having realized his ‘God tailored’ life’s purpose during his days in University, Ugo envisioned  being the number one African fashion influencer, with originality placed at the core of his artistry; and judging by the velocity at which his designs are igniting glowing splinters, he’s well on his way.

His current collaboration with Ebuka has definitely served as a social stepping stone for the two artists and promises to continue yielding positive fruit; and just as it’s been for a couple of week through the show, Ebuka will be spotting another one of his amazing designs, “an itsekiri inspired outfit with a royal twist from the Niger Delta region of Nigeria”. We raise eyebrows and another worldwide trend.

When asked what his prospects are for the African fashion district, he highlighted the uniqueness deeply embedded in the putting together of fabric that deserved worldwide recognition, and judging by his architectural genius in fabric form, the world is watching and Africa is putting on a show. Watch this space.

The Ankara Renaissance

The Ankara Renaissance

ankaraAnkara have become a major material in fashion expression in Africa. Nigerian fashion environment have continued to witness great and eye popping designs from the highly versatile and world renowned  Ankara fabrics. With several global fashion Icons like Naomi Campbell and Stella McCartney embracing the Ankara lore many more nigerians have become Ankaracentric in their looks.

One of the major fabrics adopted in Southwestern and Northern Nigeria,  Ankara used to be known as the most used fabric in Lagos and Ibadan. It’s relatively colourful appearance and low cost comparable with other fabrics occasioned the growth of Local production of Ankara in Lagos, and Ibadan in the early 1960s. The growth of the Aswani fabric market in Lagos, and several markets in Ibadan, attested to the love of the Yoruba for these fabrics.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

However,  the arrival of cheaper ready to wear European attires in the eighties and nineties sounded the knell on the Popularity of this fabric. This has led to the gradual collapse of the Ankara Industry before the end of the last decade. The turn of the century occasioned high youth radicalisation and return to nationalism in Africa. Most African youth embraced local industry and the fashion industry resurfaced from hibernation.

Ankara fabric was one of the beneficiaries of the youth renaissance and today, the Ankara has gradually become the number one status symbol in youth nationalist expression. This has increased works based on Ankara Fabrics and influenced local Designers embracing Ankara as the main inspirations for colourful Apparels.

Mariah Carey reveals she’s battling bipolar disorder

Celebrity Gists, Fashion, Music, personality

mariah22Mariah Carey reveals she’s battling bipolar disorder.

Mariah Carey, an American R&B singer, says she is battling bipolar disorder.

The singer revealed to People that she was first diagnosed with the mental illness in 2001 but “didn’t want to believe it”.

Some of the symptoms of bipolar disorder include depression, insomnia, sudden mood swings, irritability, and hyperactivity.

Carey says she is now in therapy and getting treatment for the disorder.

“Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me,” she told the magazine.

“It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn’t do that anymore. I sought and received treatment, I put positive people around me and I got back to doing what I love – writing songs and making music.

“I’m actually taking medication that seems to be pretty good. It’s not making me feel too tired or sluggish or anything like that. Finding the proper balance is what is most important,”

In 2014, Carey separated from ex-husband and rapper, Nick Cannon. Their marriage produced twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

In January 2016, she announced her engagement to Joseph Parker but nine months later, the relationship hit a snag.

Carey is currently working on her 15th studio album.
