Who is Andrew Parker and when did he become MI5 director-general?

Andrew Parker, 55, is married with two children.

He studied natural sciences at Cambridge University’s Churchill College and is a keen ornithologist and wildlife photographer.

Parker was appointed Director-General of the British Security Service in April 2013, taking over from Sir Jonathan Evans.

After he joined the Security Service in 1983, and went on to lead the MI5’s international terrorism division in 2005.

Within seven months, Mr Parker dealt with the London bombings.
