GARETH SOUTHGATE will waste no time in announcing his final England squad for the World Cup.
The Three Lions gaffer will reveal his 23-man group on May 16 when he faces the media at Wembley.
Southgate will head into his first major tournament with his plans in disarray followingJoe Gomez’s latest setback.
The Liverpool defender, who was braced to be on the plane to Russia, underwent ankle surgery ruling him out of the tournament.
He joins team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the treatment table as Southgate ponders their replacements.
It is believed that Southgate is considering naming Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon in his provisional 35-man squad.
He will hand the names to Fifa on Monday before narrowing it down to the 23 required.
Adam Lallana’s place in the side remains in doubt following his injury setbacks while Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier also limped off against Newcastle on Wednesday.

Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere is also sweating on his place after his recall to the squad for England’s friendlies against Holland and Italy was marred by injury.
Southgate has doubts over his fitness and Wilshere last represented England when they crashed out of Euro 2016 against Iceland.
