Arsene Wenger provides update on Laurent Koscielny’s injury
France’s Laurent Koscielny’s World Cup hopes appear to be over with Arsene Wenger confirming that the central-defender is suspected to have suffered a ruptured Achilles.
Arsenal were eliminated from the Europa League this evening at the semi-final stage by Atletico Madrid with Diego Costa’s first-half proving the difference over the two-legs.
“His chances for the World Cup are non-existent”
Wenger has admitted that Koscielny’s World Cup chances are non-existent after he was stretchered off in the first half of this evening’s clash at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The French defender is believed to have suffered a ruptured Achilles which usually takes six months to fully recover from.
“It doesn’t look very good, you can always hope for a miracle in the scan.
“If he has a ruptured Achilles I’d say his chances for the WC are non-existent, but we will know more after the scan.”
Arsenal crashed out of the Europa League at the hands of Atletico Madrid as Diego Costa returned to once again haunt the Gunners.
The Spanish forward scored the only goal of the game to take Atletico Madrid to the Europa League final where they will face Marseille.
Madrid proved a stern test for Arsene Wenger’s side who were unable to break them down at a stadium they have gone 1,097 minutes without conceding a goal in.
