The representative of Napoli midfielder Jorginho has this evening provided an update of the future of the midfielder, amid heavy links with Manchester City.
Jorginho, a Brazilian-born Italian international, joined Napoli from Hellas Verona for 9.5 million Euro in 2014, since going on to develop into one of the finest midfielders in Serie A.
In an incredible statistic, it was revealed last summer that the 26-year-old made more passes per game than any other player in Europe’s top 5 leagues last season (as per Football-Italia.net).
Sitting in his deep-lying midfield berth, the Verona youth product has flourished behind Napoli’s fearsome attacking quartet of Marek Hamsik, Jose Callejon, Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens, and has started 31 of his side’s 35 Serie A fixtures to this point in the campaign.

Despite his near-indispensable presence in Maurizio Sarri’s Partneopei squad, though, Jorginho has often been linked with a departure from the San Paolo over recent seasons, with both Arsenal and Liverpool having long been touted as potential destinations.
However, a number of reports emanating from Italy over recent months insisted that Manchester United had jumped firmly to the front of the queue for Jorginho, having held talks with the representatives of the midfielder regarding a summer switch to the club.
‘Several clubs interested’
These reports have subsequently been followed by a widespread agreement throughout both Italy and England over the last couple of weeks, though, that it is in fact Manchester City who look closest to securing a summer deal for Jorginho.
City’s technical, free-flowing style would certainly be befitting of Jorginho’s talents, with Pep Guardiola said to be a huge fan of the Azzurri star.
As such, speaking in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli earlier today, Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, was questioned on whether his client is in fact close to a departure from the San Paolo, with Santos having explained:
‘I’ll talk with the club because Jorginho has another two years on his contract.’
‘But there are also several clubs interested in him, and we have to understand if Napoli want to move forward with their starters or not.’
‘At the moment all we know is that [Pepe] Reina will leave.’
